Title: Development of Faculty Mentorship

Biography: Dr. Laura Foxcroft completed Medical School at McMaster University in 2001.  She went on to complete her training in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine at Queens University in 2004.  Dr. Foxcroft worked as a community Emergency Medicine Physician at Brockville General Hospital from 2004-2006 and in 2006 subsequently began her career as an academic Emergency Medicine Physician at The Ottawa Hospital.  Since 2009 Dr. Foxcroft has worked in academic Emergency Medicine at the London Health Sciences Centre and is an Associate Professor at the Schulich School of & Dentistry, Western University in London, Ontario.

Dr. Foxcroft’s academic passion is in Faculty Wellbeing and Faculty Mentorship.  She was the inaugural Provider Value Officer in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Schulich from 2015-2018.  In 2020, she was appointed Assistant Dean, Faculty Wellbeing at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University.  Dr. Foxcroft currently leads the Schulich Wellbeing Peers for Peers program as well as the Schulich Faculty Mentorship Program.

Overview: Mentorship at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is a formal process whereby the faculty member has the assistance and support of others to help them with their professional goals. This process is initiated by the Mentoring Committee but is soon led by the mentee.

Learning Objectives:

1)To provide and overview of the Schulich Faculty Mentorship policy

2)To discuss strategies to effectively operationalize a faculty mentorship policy

3)To discuss how faculty mentorship improves patient care
