Title: Integrating social accountability in the health professions education curricula

Biogrpahy:

Tim Dubé is an Assistant Professor, Health Professions Education in Université de Sherbrooke’s Department of Family and Emergency Medicine. Trained in rural and northern health research (PhD), Tim has extensive applied experiences with distributed community-engaged learning, competency-based medical education, and social accountability. His research program aims to advance understanding of how educational approaches prepare future socially accountable health professionals who will have a positive impact on society and meet the health needs of the individuals and communities they serve. 

Overview

As health professions education curricula are increasingly undergoing reform toward social accountability, educators grapple with the challenge of integrating this concept into their programs. This talk aims to share processes and strategies for enhancing teaching and learning centered on social accountability.

Learning objectives

  • Define the concept of social accountability within the context of health professions education.
  • Identify and explain the key elements and characteristics of educational approaches that promote social accountability, including their integration into health professions education curricula.
  • Describe strategies for weaving social accountability into educational programs, supported by research evidence and practical examples of lessons learned.
